Boluda Shipping celebrated the renewal of the concession for Boluda Maritime Terminals La Palma (BMT La Palma) with the incorporation of the first STS crane to operate in the port. The project aims to boost the logistical and port development of the Spanish island located in the Atlantic Ocean.
The new Panamax STS crane has a lifting capacity of up to 40 tons, an outreach of 38.7 meters over the sea, and a working height of 27 meters above the quay. These features will allow it to serve larger container ships and optimize loading and unloading operations.
The equipment has also undergone a thorough technological modernization, which includes a new operator's cabin, renewed braking systems, electronic weighing, and LED lighting, along with other improvements aimed at increasing safety, reliability, and service efficiency.
The event was attended by Vicente Boluda Fos, president of Boluda Corporación Marítima; Ignacio Boluda Ceballos, head of Boluda Shipping; as well as members of the company's management, including Antonio Bordils, CEO of Boluda Corporación Marítima, and Javier Climent, general director of Boluda Shipping, among others.
Institutional participants included Pedro Suárez, president of the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife; Sergio Rodríguez, president of the Cabildo de La Palma; Asier Antona, mayor of Santa Cruz de La Palma; and Héctor Izquierdo, representative of the Office of the Special Commissioner for the Reconstruction of La Palma.
In this regard, Vicente Boluda Fos, president of Boluda Corporación Marítima, highlighted that "the Canary Islands have been part of Boluda's history for decades. We have shared a long journey, working alongside companies, institutions, and professionals who have placed their trust in us and who have allowed us to build a solid and lasting relationship. This new crane is a tangible sign of our commitment to the future and our willingness to continue growing alongside La Palma."
For his part, Ignacio Boluda Ceballos, president of Boluda Shipping, noted that "from Boluda Shipping, we are proud to actively contribute to the modernization of essential infrastructure for the island's connectivity and economy. The incorporation of the new crane means a container terminal better prepared for the future: the dimensions and capacity of the new crane will allow the terminal to serve larger container ships, while optimizing operations, in a context of growing container traffic in the port."
Meanwhile, Pedro Suárez, president of the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, commented that "the modernization of port facilities is fundamental to having increasingly efficient, safe, and prepared facilities to meet the needs of maritime traffic" and thanked Boluda "for its commitment to continue investing in the port and thus contributing to strengthening a strategic infrastructure for the connectivity and supply of La Palma."
Likewise, Sergio Rodríguez, president of the Cabildo de La Palma, expressed that "the commitment of the island government team to work together with the island's logistics companies. This shared effort is deeply reinforced and supported thanks to the decisive commitment of Boluda Maritime Terminals in the Port of Santa Cruz de La Palma."
Furthermore, Asier Antona, mayor of Santa Cruz de La Palma, emphasized that "from the City Council, we especially value that companies like Boluda continue to bet on our island, because improving our logistical capacity and our connections also means generating new opportunities for activity and growth for La Palma."
It is worth mentioning that Boluda's presence in the Canary Islands dates back to 1994. Since then, the company has developed a close relationship with the business, institutional, and port fabric of the archipelago.
"In La Palma, this commitment is materialized both in the continuity of its operations and in the constant improvement of the infrastructure and equipment placed at the service of clients, operators, and professionals linked to port activity," the company pointed out.
"With this investment, Boluda Shipping reaffirms its commitment to the economic and logistical development of La Palma, contributing to strengthening its maritime connectivity and generating new growth opportunities for the island," it concluded.
