The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries of the National Ministry of Economy reports, through the Undersecretariat of Aquatic Resources and Aquaculture, that the fishing Industrial Production Index (IPI) registered a year-on-year increase of 31.6% in March and 30.4% in the accumulated first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period of the previous year, according to INDEC.
The IPI includes maritime fishing and aquaculture. In March 2026, maritime fishing registered an increase of 27.0% compared to the same month in 2025. The accumulated January-March 2026, compared to the same accumulated period of the previous year, registered an increase of 31.6%.
For its part, aquaculture showed an increase of 52% compared to the same month of the previous year. The accumulated January-March 2026, compared to the same accumulated period of the previous year, registered an increase of 24.3%.
In terms of species composition, the performance of the mollusk segment stood out, with an accumulated year-on-year growth in the first quarter of the year of around 70.1%, becoming one of the main drivers of the index's expansion due to the historical record in squid capture.
The sector's performance reflects an improvement in capture, processing, and commercialization levels, driven mainly by maritime fishing, which continues to position itself as a strategic axis for national productive development.
In this context, the Secretariat continues to work on policies aimed at strengthening competitiveness, promoting the control of resources in our Argentine Sea, and boosting sector exports, consolidating fishing as a key activity within the national productive profile.
