American Cruise Lines officially launched its third new ship of 2026 with the naming of American Ranger at Historic Catskill Point, Catskill, New York.
Inaugural cruise guests, company executives and crew members celebrated on the top deck with a festive cookout and the ceremonial bottle smash by godmother Susan Renner, American's longtime treasurer and chair.
Renner is also the godmother of American Ranger's sister, American Maverick, christened earlier this year in Newport, Rhode Island.
The four-deck, 130-passenger American Ranger is the company's fourth Patriot-class ship.
"We are so pleased to christen American Ranger with our guests and crew, surrounded by the Hudson River Valley's magnificent fall scenery," said Charles B. Robertson, president & CEO of American Cruise Lines. "Today, American Ranger assumes the mantle as the newest cruise ship in the country, but won't hold the title for long, as she will be quickly followed by three more new ships launching in 2027."
Next year, American Cruise Lines plans to introduce two more sisters of American Ranger, American Mariner and American Navigator, as well as another modern-style riverboat, American Anthem.
American Ranger features all private balcony staterooms, including singles and suites. Among the spacious lounges is a top deck lounge with a walking track. Other amenities are a chart room, a main restaurant, casual café, fitness center and a passenger laundry room.
Last week's naming festivities took place during the ship's inaugural nine-day "Hudson River Fall Foliage" itinerary, which began with an included hotel stay in New York City. The voyage ended in Albany, New York, Sept. 26.
American operates the only overnight river cruises on the Hudson. The 2026 itinerary operates between New York City and Albany, with stops at Catskill, West Point, Sleepy Hollow and Kingston/Hyde Park. Guided shore excursions are included throughout. The 2026 season is largely sold out with the last cruise set to depart Oct. 25.
In 2027, the Hudson itinerary will sail roundtrip from Albany and feature a stop and excursions in New York City, including cruising past the Statue of Liberty. 2027 "Hudson River Summer Classic" cruises begin operating in June, and the "Hudson River Fall Foliage" cruises resume next September.
