Heritage Expeditions Director Aaron Russ is in Australia this week to introduce the company's new ship, Heritage Discoverer, and unveil itineraries to travel partners.
On Tuesday he was in Melbourne, and in Sydney on Wednesday he hosted a lunch for trade and media at a waterfront restaurant at Cockle Bay, the next best thing to being on board a ship.
The road show continues to Brisbane on Thursday.
Russ gave a potted history of the incredible growth of Heritage Expeditions, with his father Rodney, a former protected species officer with the New Zealand Wildlife Service, and mother Shirley launching the company in Christchurch in 1984.
Rodney Russ believed that experiencing fragile ecosystems firsthand turned travellers into conservation ambassadors.
The Russ' first expedition cruise company was called Southern Heritage Expeditions and took passengers around the New Zealand coast and to New Zealand's sub-Antarctic islands.
The first vessel they chartered was the 76-foot, 12-berth research vessel Acheron.
Aaron, who now runs what has become Heritage Expeditions with his brother Nathan, said after more charters two ships followed — Heritage Adventurer (formerly Hanseatic) and Heritage Explorer.
The big news of the road show is the addition of a third ship — Exploris One (formerly Silversea's Silver Explorer) which will be sailing as Heritage Discoverer on her maiden 2027-28 season.
She has been significantly upgraded and will sail with a maximum of 130 passengers, an expedition team of 15 and a fleet of 14 Zodiacs
The season includes "Atlantic Shores Odyssey" from Lisbon to Portsmouth on May 2 next year; "British Isles, Ireland & Scotland Expedition" from Portsmouth to Glasgow on May 12; "Scotland, Faroe Islands & Iceland" from Glasgow to Reykjavik on May 22; "Iceland's Fire & Ice Circumnavigation" round trip from Reykjavik on June 2; "Svalbard, Greenland & Iceland Arctic Islands Expedition" from Paris to Reykjavik on July 21; "Antarctic Peninsula Expedition" round voyage from Ushuaia November 22, December 2 and 12 and January 10, 2028 and "South Georgia, Falklands & Antarctic Peninsula" round voyage from Ushuaia November 2 and December 21.
Heritage Expeditions will again have a stand at Cruise360 2026 at Sydney's International Convention Centre September 17-18.
