(6:01 p.m. EDT) — Royal Caribbean International's newest Icon Class ship, Hero of the Seas, floated on water for the first time today at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland.
The milestone marks the latest phase of construction for the fourth Icon Class ship ahead of its 2027 debut in Miami.
For the float-out, the dry dock was filled with more than 90 million gallons of water overnight. The ship was then moved into the outfitting pier, where construction will continue over the next year.
Arriving in August 2027, Hero of the Seas will sail seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises from Miami, with every itinerary visiting Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean's private island destination in the Bahamas.
The ship will feature nine pools across eight neighborhoods, along with the largest swim-up bar on the ocean and 28 dining venues, including the new Orleans Parrish Supper Club.
Other highlights include Crown's Edge, a skywalk and zip line experience 154 feet above the ocean, along with the new Coconut Cove pool and adults-only The Hideaway.
