TUI River Cruises has confirmed plans to expand its fleet from 6 to 10 vessels by 2028 with the addition of two newbuild river ships from Concordia Damen. Designed specifically for the UK market, the vessels will operate across Europe's waterways, including the Rhine, Douro and Nile, as the company continues to strengthen its presence in the river cruise sector.
The two ships have been designed with future alternative fuels in mind and will be methanol-ready. Each vessel will accommodate 188 guests in 94 cabins and will feature spacious public areas intended to deliver a contemporary river cruising experience. Delivery is scheduled for 2028.
TUI River Cruises said the order represents a significant milestone in the development of its fleet and underlines the company's continued investment in river cruising. The line noted that the purpose-built vessels reflect its growth ambitions while supporting its commitment to offering a modern onboard experience tailored to its guests.
The announcement coincided with the naming ceremony of TUI Aria in Frankfurt on the River Rhine.
The refurbished vessel, now the largest-capacity ship in the TUI River Cruises European fleet, officially entered service following the ceremony, which included addresses by senior company executives. The cruise line described the introduction of TUI Aria alongside the announcement of the two newbuilds as another step in the continued evolution of the brand, with the new ships expected to enter service in 2028.
