Drought forces European river cruise operators to modify itineraries
Record-low water levels caused by prolonged drought and extreme summer temperatures are disrupting river navigation across Europe's major waterways including the Danube and Rhine. Water levels in Budapest, Mohács (Hungary), Giurgiu (Romania), and near Kaub (Germany) have become too shallow for normal navigation. Cruise operators including Viking, Uniworld, Tauck, and AmaWaterways have implemented contingency measures such as adjusting port calls, arranging motorcoach transfers, and carrying out ship swaps to maintain their programmes.
