Cargo vessel Omskiy-107 runs aground off Istanbul after Black Sea attack

The Russian-flagged general cargo vessel Omskiy-107, damaged in Black Sea, began drifting toward Turkey's coast and ran aground off Alaçalı Beach, Istanbul.

According to Turkish news media, the vessel was attacked off the coast of Novorossiysk Port in Russia, which triggered a fire in the wheelhouse and caused severe damage. The crew had reportedly abandoned the ship in lifeboats.

Following the evacuation, the vessel was drifting toward Türkiye's northern coast and ran aground off Alaçalı Beach in Şile, Istanbul, prompting the deployment of Turkish Coast Guard units to the area.

Teams arriving at the scene secured the surrounding area and launched an investigation. The exact date of the attack and the condition of the crew remain unclear.

Omskiy-107 is a 1981-built cargo vessel that measures 108 meters in length and 15 meters in width with a deadweight tonnage of 3248 metric tonnes.
