Vanguard Tech has identified the vessel as Liberian-flagged Lipsi. This is the latest incident in a recent pattern of attacks on shuttle tankers that transfer oil via ship-to-ship operations in the Gulf of Oman.
Over the past week, UKMTO has reported several such incidents, marking a significant rise in frequency to nearly one attack per day. Most of the attacks have targeted the engine room, indicating an intent to degrade mobility rather than cause casualties.
The Lipsi is a 2026-built oil tanker Chinese-owned and operated by a Greek company. The vessel measures 250 metres in length, with a beam of 44 metres and a gross tonnage of 63,468.
