The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) received a report about a vessel being hit by an unknown projectile while sailing outbound through the Strait of Hormuz.
"UKMTO received a report of an incident in the Strait of Hormuz. The Company Security Officer (CSO) reported that the vessel was struck by an unknown projectile while making an outbound transit in the Strait of Hormuz," the entity stated.
"The impact caused damage to the engine room and resulted in one casualty among the crew. The rest of the crew is currently being assisted by the Oman Coast Guard. At present, no environmental impact has been reported," it added.
The incident occurs at a time when maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz continues to be severely disrupted, with vessel crossings still remaining in single-digit figures, compared to the more than 130 daily recorded before the war.
