DP World incorporated seven electric tractor trucks into its multipurpose terminal in the Port of San Antonio, Chile, as part of its operational modernization and sustainability strategy. The new units will be used to reinforce the movement of containers within the port yard and represent the first of their kind to operate in a terminal in central Chile.
According to DP World, the equipment will allow a significant portion of the terminal's cargo to be moved using renewable energy, contributing to reducing polluting emissions and also decreasing noise pollution within port operations. The initiative is part of the growing global trend of automation and decarbonization in the maritime and logistics industry.
The units arrived aboard the vessel Cosco Yai Yuan Kou and will enter operation during June, after completing training processes for operators and technical personnel. With this step, DP World seeks to strengthen the efficiency of its operations and move towards more sustainable and competitive terminals in the region.
