The shipping giant Maersk announced on 28 September that it had successfully completed the bunkering of its dual-fuel containership with corn ethanol in the United States.

The bunkering operation was conducted on the alcohol-enabled deep-sea containership Tangier Maersk with US produced corn ethanol. This marks the first ship-to-ship commercial ethanol bunkering operation following Maersk's previous trials conducted on Laura Maersk and Antonia Maersk in July.
According to Maersk, ethanol as a marine fuel has an established base and existing infrastructure in the US, but its widespread adoption as a marine fuel will depend on its scalable availability, suitable infrastructure, clear regulation and operational readiness across the maritime value chain.
Tangier Maersk is a 2026-built containership sailing under the Danish flag. The vessel measures 274 meters in length, 46 meters in width and has a deadweight of 114,293 MT.
