The United States forces have diverted 92 commercial vessels while enforcing a maritime blockade against Iran, according to the U.S. Central Command (Centcom).
"As of September 6, U.S. forces have diverted 92 commercial vessels, disabled 3, and boarded 2 to ensure strict compliance," the Central Command stated on the social network X.
The command also noted that a U.S. Air Force F-35A stealth fighter was patrolling regional waters.
The declaration comes amid an ongoing conflict that began when the U.S. and Israel launched attacks against Iran in February, followed by Iranian retaliatory attacks against U.S. targets across the region.
Iran and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding in June, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, outlining steps to end hostilities, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and address economic restrictions.
Since then, both parties have accused each other of failing to uphold the commitments made in the memorandum, while military tensions have continued alongside disputes over sanctions and navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
