Chile has added a new market for its fresh fruit exports after Paraguay formalized the entry into force of phytosanitary requirements for the import of fresh Chilean blueberries.
This achievement is the result of joint work between the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) and the National Service of Plant and Seed Quality and Health of Paraguay, which allowed them to agree on the necessary measures to safeguard the plant health of both countries and facilitate safe and reliable trade.
The Minister of Agriculture, Jaime Campos, explained that "from now on, Chilean exporters will be able to access the Paraguayan market thanks to the Risk Mitigation System for Fresh Blueberries produced in Chile, a technical proposal developed by the SAG and approved by the Paraguayan phytosanitary authority. This system establishes the control, inspection, and certification measures that national shipments destined for that country must comply with."
This opening constitutes an advance for the national export sector, as it expands commercial opportunities for producers and exporters of fresh blueberries, while contributing to market diversification and strengthening the presence of Chilean fruit in Latin America.
"The incorporation of Paraguay as a destination for fresh Chilean blueberries reflects our Service's permanent commitment to promoting access for agricultural exportable offerings to new international markets, contributing to the growth of the fruit sector and the development of agriculture," stated the National Director of SAG, Domingo Rojas Philippi.
