The regional governor of Arequipa, Rohel Sánchez, reported today that companies from the United States, Europe, Asia, and India are interested in investing in the Corío port project, which involves an estimated investment of 844.48 million dollars.
"There are several interested companies that have approached us from different countries. To mention, in general terms, we have investors from the United States, China, South Korea, India, Turkey, the Netherlands, among others," he stated.
During the event "Corío Port City: a new development platform for the south," Rohel Sánchez highlighted the agreement signed between the Regional Government of Arequipa and the Private Investment Promotion Agency (ProInversión) to promote this port initiative.
"Today we signed an agreement for ProInversión to lead all the investment development that the Corío Port-City will involve, and as a regional government, we have registered 34,596 hectares of land for the location of the different zones," he explained.
"The core of the port involves 1,127 hectares and will likely be a Public-Private Partnership; there is also the industrial and technological development zone, and the logistics area," he added.
The Regional Government of Arequipa projected that the port initiative could generate over 50,000 direct and 150,000 indirect jobs, in addition to contributing to the development of technical capabilities, innovation, and knowledge transfer.
"Corío, being a megaport, promotes the design and intervention in road and railway projects, as well as connection with the airport," said the regional governor of Arequipa.
The Master Plan for the Corío Port Terminal was approved by the National Port Authority in September 2026. ProInversión plans to advance in public-private articulation and in promoting the necessary investments to progressively develop the project and its logistical environment.
