DP World, one of the concessionaires operating in the Port of San Antonio, received four new trains that arrived from China aboard the vessel Star Lima for the State Railway Company (EFE).
The vessel, which is 204 meters long and 32 meters wide, docked at site Costanera 2 of the San Antonio maritime terminal shortly after 10 AM on Friday, August 21.
In detail, the operation with the vessel involved the unloading of eight carriages, which is equivalent to four two-car trains. The shipment consists of diesel railcars manufactured by the Chinese company CSR Sifang, in Qingdao.
The railway material will be integrated into the railway operations offered by EFE, through its subsidiary EFE Sur, in the La Araucanía Region and, in the future, will be deployed in the extension of the passenger service from Temuco to Gorbea.
The newly arrived trains are characterized by a capacity that allows them to transport more than 400 passengers, while their maximum speed can reach 120 kilometers per hour. Likewise, the equipment features technologies such as anti-crash safety devices and an anti-climber system for the protection of travelers and crew in the event of collisions.
Additionally, these railcars have protective elements such as thermal panel windows with glass and polycarbonate, which allow for greater thermal and acoustic insulation and resistance. In turn, they comply with universal accessibility standards, differentiated seating for the elderly, on-board information screens, air conditioning, security cameras, intercom with the driver, and inclusive bathrooms.
