The Port Authority of Bilbao will once again participate in Fruit Attraction, a benchmark event for operators, retailers and professionals in the fruit and vegetable sector, which will take place from October 6 to 8 at IFEMA Madrid. The event will feature the presence of more than 2,400 companies from 152 different countries and an attendance of more than 120,000 professionals is expected.
On the one hand, the Director of Operations, Commercial and Logistics of the APB, Andima Ormaetxe, will be one of the speakers, on October 7 at 12:30 p.m., at the round table entitled "Innovation in the cold chain: the strategic role of ports in the global trade of fresh products."
For Ormaetxe, Fruit Attraction is an important event for the Port of Bilbao, "as it allows us to be close to one of the sectors that most needs efficient, reliable and agile logical chains. In addition, it is a privileged meeting point to keep up to date with emerging trends that drive development, promoting sustainability and innovation in the industry, two basic pillars in our Port's commercial strategy."
In parallel, the Port of Bilbao will be in Pavilion 4-stand 4C1, located within the Puertos del Estado space, to reinforce its position as an Atlantic gateway for foreign trade for fruits and vegetables from the Iberian Peninsula, publicizing its infrastructure, its services and the opportunities offered by its two new direct container connections with America, specifically with the west coast of South America (with calls in the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Panama, Peru and Chile), and with Canada. These two services reinforce the large number of shipping lines that connect it to nearly 900 ports around the world, with a strong presence in the United Kingdom and Ireland and northern Europe.
This is joined by specialized facilities and companies with experience in perishable traffic. The Border Control Post (PCF), which has 15 bays, has new refrigeration equipment for the chambers and loading docks, and the incorporation of new laboratories for SOIVRE.
The container terminal, the most important in northern Spain, has 540 reefer container plugs and automated access that streamlines and simplifies all operations, something fundamental for this type of traffic. The Port of Bilbao also has ro-ro and multipurpose terminals and perishable warehouses.
Likewise, the Frioport cold terminal has 4,800 square meters, two freezing chambers at -25 degrees totaling 16,300 cubic meters, and three positive cold chambers with a capacity of 7,500 cubic meters; while Progeco has two facilities for storing and transferring goods with 6,000 square meters of positive cold. It also offers specialized services for storage, maintenance and repair of refrigerated containers 365 days a year, avoiding interruptions in the cold chain.
All this is complemented by other competitive advantages, such as weekly container rail services with depots distributed in the provinces of: Araba, Barcelona, Burgos, Guadalajara, Huesca, La Rioja, Madrid, Murcia, Pontevedra, Seville, Tarragona, Valencia and Zaragoza.
