This 2026, the Port of Lisbon recorded its best August in history for cruise activity, setting new historical highs in the total number of passengers, in transit and turnaround, as well as in port calls in transit and turnaround.
During the month, 86,322 cruise guests passed through the terminal, 23% more than in August 2025 and above the previous record for this month, registered in 2024, with 73,949 people.
The number of port calls also reached a new historical high, with 33, a 32% increase compared to the same period last year and above the previous record of 29, registered in August 2008.
The transit passenger segment recorded particularly strong growth, with 24,633 embarkation and disembarkation movements, 117% more than in August 2025. The previous best result had been 21,292 guests, in 2023.
The increase in turnaround operations was due to a considerable increase in embarkation and disembarkation movements. The number of people embarking increased from 5,701 to 12,090 (+112%), while disembarkations grew from 5,663 to 12,543 (+121%).
The number of public transport passengers also reached a new high in August, with 61,689, surpassing the previous record of 60,132, registered in 2024.
August also set a new record for the number of follow-up calls, with nine, surpassing the previous high of eight, registered in 2009. With this result, recovery now accounts for 28.5% of monthly traffic, compared to 16.2% in August 2025.
The strong performance during August also highlights a progressive reduction in the seasonality of cruise activity in Lisbon, with increasing demand from major international companies during the summer months.
During the month, the terminal also received two ships on their inaugural voyages, the Explora III and the Mein Schiff Flow.
Cumulative figures for the year to date maintain their growth trajectory. In the eight months of 2026, the Port of Lisbon recorded 220 calls, 6% more than in the same period of 2025, and welcomed 448,037 passengers, representing a 2% growth.
The turnaround segment continues to stand out, with 127,194 guests between January and August, 13% more than in the same period last year, representing 28.4% of total traffic, 2.8 percentage points more than in the same period of 2025.
The results obtained confirm the positive evolution of cruise activity in the Port of Lisbon, reinforcing the competitiveness and international attractiveness of the Portuguese capital as a cruise destination.
