Katoen Natie announced that the TCP Workers' Union (TCP-Nelsury) resumed its activities at the Cuenca del Plata Terminal (TCP), which occurred after a "surprise strike" on the morning of Thursday, September 3.
"Terminal Cuenca del Plata informs that the TCP-Nelsury Union, after carrying out a surprise strike, decided to resume activity at this moment," the company communicated.
"We regret any inconvenience that may be caused, but our objective is to immediately communicate any news that affects operations or truck service, given that the union has decided to take surprise measures and the situation can change both in the moment and in the extension of the measures," it added.
It should be remembered that TCP-Nelsury carried out a strike between 7:30 PM on Wednesday, September 2, and 7:00 AM on Thursday, September 3, which occurred within the framework of negotiations for a new collective agreement held by both parties. Subsequently, the group resumed the pressure measure without prior notice.
Previously, Katoen Natie specified that "the negotiation has been ongoing since the expiration of the previous agreement on May 31. Since then, numerous bipartite and tripartite meetings have been held, with the participation of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, while operations have been repeatedly affected by union actions."
"Recently, TCP presented a draft agreement whose progress was valued by the Workers' Assembly. In response to seven additional points raised by the union, the company incorporated new improvements in three of them. The proposal was formulated in definitive terms, with TCP maintaining its willingness to explain and clarify all necessary aspects to facilitate the conclusion of the agreement," it added.
"Despite these advances, the union decided to resume the measures. TCP rejects claims attributing a lack of good faith or a refusal to negotiate, as they do not correspond to the effective development of the process or the successive proposals presented. The union reported that these schedules could be modified or the measures extended," the company complemented.
The constant industrial actions by the union have caused severe delays in the flow of goods, forced the rescheduling of vessel calls, and raised alarms in the foreign trade sector due to the resulting logistical surcharges.
