Deltamarin's new design for the 40,000 DWT MR1 product tanker has received Approval in Principle (AiP) from Bureau Veritas (BV).
The AiP confirms that the design complies with applicable requirements and highlights the technical advancement of this innovative vessel, supporting its development for commercialization.
Following the delivery of its optimized 50,000 DWT MR2 tanker, the recent approval of the 40,000 DWT MR1 vessel for petroleum products adds a new modern and eco-efficient unit to the fleet.
The design was jointly developed by Deltamarin and the Chinese shipyard Yangzhou Dingheng (part of the China Merchant Shipbuilding Industry group). The new design expands the offerings of both companies in the medium and small tonnage tanker segment.
Designed to meet the specific needs of the current shipping market, this vessel is particularly suited for operational scenarios with port draft restrictions, short voyages, and high rotation frequency. It fills a need in this market segment, offering shipowners and operators a more diverse and flexible design solution that adapts to different operational requirements.
The new MR1 tanker incorporates comprehensive improvements across four key areas: energy efficiency, cargo capacity, environmental compliance, and safety.
To comply with international regulations, the design optimizes hull lines and integrates a low-consumption, reduced-carbon-emission propulsion system. The vessel also achieves a balance between energy performance, transport volume, and structural integrity.
Furthermore, the design offers great adaptability to different scenarios and extensive customization potential. Personalized adjustments can be made according to route conditions, cargo requirements, and customers' operational modes to adapt to various operational profiles.
This allows shipowners and operators to optimize the vessel for their specific needs, contributing to containing operational costs and improving overall profitability.
