The German technology group Mahle announced an expansion of its key component offerings for the maritime industry, aimed at improving efficiency and reliability in the propulsion systems of ships and commercial vessels.
The company, established as a global leader in the manufacturing of pistons for high-speed ferries, seeks to respond to the growing demand for more energy-efficient engines.
Among its main solutions for the naval sector is the cylindrical power unit (PCU), an integrated assembly comprising a piston, pin, rings, and cylinder liner that converts fuel energy into electricity. This system is optimized for application in ferries, workboats, and auxiliary power generation equipment on board large vessels.
In the large-scale segment, the company manufactures the largest series-produced marine piston in its catalog. With a height of 65 centimeters, a diameter of 51 centimeters, and a weight of nearly 300 kilograms, this component is designed to withstand the operational demands of combustion chambers in large tonnage marine engines.
To accelerate the delivery of these technologies, Mahle structured its operations by creating its new Industrial and Special Solutions division. This reorganization aims to directly coordinate the areas of engineering, sales, and production to develop tailor-made components for major manufacturers in the transportation and energy generation sectors.
