ZPMC Delivers First 38,000 DWT Multipurpose Vessels to Chipolbrok

Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (ZPMC) held a ceremony to christen the first two 38,000 DWT heavy-lift multipurpose vessels destined for Chipolbrok.

Each vessel measures 182 meters in length, 30 meters in breadth, and 17 meters in depth, with a design draft of 9.8 meters and a service speed of 14.5 knots. Classified by DNV, the vessels feature a full-length open deck and two extra-long cargo holds, with a maximum length of 76.8 meters, in addition to adjustable 'tween decks that enhance cargo versatility.

Each unit is equipped with three 350-ton cranes developed in-house by ZPMC, two of which can operate in tandem to provide a combined lifting capacity of up to 700 tons, allowing for the efficient handling of heavy components.

Thanks to their high cargo capacity, heavy lifting capability, versatility in cargo handling, and low energy consumption, these vessels are designed to transport oversized equipment, heavy engineering materials, and project cargo by sea. This series also marks ZPMC's entry into the heavy-lift multipurpose vessel market.

The series of four vessels incorporates a highly energy-efficient design with a shaft generator and a battery system. This system combines a continuous power supply from the shaft generator with flexible peak load management using batteries and potential energy recovery, contributing to reduced fuel consumption and carbon emissions under all operating conditions and improving the vessels' Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) rating, in line with the shipping sector's transition towards low-carbon operations.

Following their delivery, the vessels will operate on major international routes for oversized cargo, providing reliable transport capacity for wind power equipment, large construction machinery, specialized components, and other heavy cargo.
