The Forward Seamen's Union of India (FSUI) has urged Indian authorities to take immediate measures to ensure the safety of 23 Indian crewmembers of the Guinea Bissau-flagged container ship Baryon after it was drone-attacked on 2 September.

According to FSUI, the vessel was struck by a drone in Black Sea while sailing from Novorossiysk, Russia, to Karachi, Pakistan. The attack triggered a fire in the accommodations section while a second drone was reportedly sighted nearby.
The crew extinguished the fire, and the vessel resumed its voyage under its own power. All 23 Indian seafarers were reported safe.
Following the incident, FSUI has called India's Directorate General of Shipping and the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways to confirm the well-being of the crew members aboard the Baryon.
The union has also urged the authorities to take stronger measures for the protection of the seafarers operating in the war zone regions. It also called for High Risk Area (HRA) compensation and urged the government to raise the matter with the relevant authorities.
Baryon is a 1997-built vessel that measures 159.53 meters in length and 25 meters in width.
