The shipping company Hapag-Lloyd warned of logistics complications in Colombia following the earthquake that occurred in the South American country on August 10 of the current year.
In this regard, the company stated that "our teams are collaborating with local authorities, terminals, and logistics partners to assess the operational impact. Operations in Buenaventura and on major land routes could suffer temporary restrictions or delays, including cargo handling, vessel operations, inland transportation, depot services, and customer service."
"Several roads and corridors are currently closed or affected, including the Buga-Buenaventura, Calarcá-Ibagué, and Manizales-Fresno routes. Customers are advised to allow additional time for cargo transportation and to monitor specific shipment updates," the statement added.
Furthermore, it was reported that "where operationally feasible, customers may request a change of destination to Cartagena, subject to cargo requirements and available capacity. Our sales and customer service teams are available to provide assistance."
Regarding Hapag-Lloyd's facilities in the cities of Cali, Medellín, and Bogotá; it was communicated that "they remain operational for the return of empty containers, subject to capacity and local conditions."
Finally, the company remarked that "our thoughts are with all those affected, especially the affected communities, our colleagues, and their families. Their safety and well-being remain our utmost priority."
