ESL Shipping received the Luxomar, the twelfth and final unit in its series of 5,400 DWT plug-in hybrid Green Coaster coastal vessels, which will soon make its maiden voyage from India to Europe.
Built by Chowgule and Company, the Green Coasters combine hybrid battery technology, shore power connection, and an optimized design to improve energy efficiency, reduce emissions, and enable silent, emission-free port calls. The vessels have an ice classification of 1A, allowing them to operate year-round in the northern Baltic Sea.
"The delivery of the Luxomar marks the successful culmination of a strategic investment program that strengthens ESL Shipping's competitiveness and supports future growth," stated Mikki Koskinen, Managing Director of ESL Shipping.
"In recent years, we have transformed our coastal fleet with twelve modern hybrid vessels that enhance our ability to serve customers in our core markets. The vessels have delivered excellent performance in daily operations and have fully met our expectations," added Frida Rowland, Senior Vice President of ESL Shipping's Coastal Business Unit.
The completion of the Green Coaster series represents a significant strategic milestone for ESL Shipping, as, together with the Green Handy investment program, the new vessels reinforce the company's capability to offer low-emission maritime logistics services in Northern Europe.
