The shipping company Hapag-Lloyd announced the implementation of a weekly rail connection between Rotterdam (Netherlands) and Germersheim (Germany). This logistical alternative is being carried out due to transit restrictions caused by water scarcity affecting the Rhine River, one of Europe's main waterways.
In this regard, the company reported that "this connection offers an alternative to our existing barge network and provides greater flexibility when planning land transport between Rotterdam and the Rhine region."
It has been revealed that the first export departure will take place on September 18th, with an estimated arrival in the Dutch city on September 19th. Meanwhile, the first export departure will be executed on September 19th and will arrive on the 21st of the same month in Germersheim.
Additionally, it was announced that the aforementioned rail service will have a weekly capacity of 88 TEU in each direction.
