Smyril Line Cargo Ship Suffers Engine Fire Near Taiwan

The Faroe Island-flagged cargo vessel Skipanes suffered an engine-room fire on 2 September, about 20 nautical miles off Taiwan. All 23 crew members were reported safe.

Following the incident, the vessel was diverted back to the Chinese shipyard CIMC Raffles Offshore Limited for inspection and technical assessment, and then it would enter commercial service.
The cargo vessel was delivered on 25 August and departed the shipyard on 28 August en route to Port Louis, Mauritius.

The vessel is the first of two Ro-Ro ships ordered by Smyril Line as part of its fleet renewal programme, adding 3,300 lane metres of capacity to the Faroe Islands' North Atlantic cargo network. The vessel measures 190 metres in length and 27 metres in width.
