Vietnam state oil company urges US Navy to allow tanker through blockade, document shows
Vietnam's state oil company PVOIL urged the U.S. Navy to allow the Maltese-flagged Agio Fanourios I supertanker carrying 2 million barrels of Iraqi crude to proceed to the Nghi Son Refinery. The vessel was redirected by U.S. forces on May 11 as part of the blockade enforcement against Iran. PVOIL Vice President Hoang Dinh Tung stated in a May 12 letter that the cargo is of extreme importance and that critically low feedstock inventories risk halting refinery throughput with cascading consequences for Vietnamese consumers and industries.
