Container movement grows by 3%, and the port consolidates its position as the automotive leader of the Mexican Pacific.
Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán, October 21, 2026.– The Port of Lázaro Cárdenas mobilized 21,517,529 tons of commercial cargo from January to September 2026. This figure represents 21% of the national movement of goods and confirms the facility as the second most important port in the country.
During the same period, the port handled 1,339 vessels. Two segments account for the majority of its operations: containerized cargo, with 52% of the total commercial cargo movement, and mineral bulk, with 36%. The remaining 12% corresponds to vehicles, general cargo, other fluids, and agricultural bulk.
Regarding container movement, 2,007,493 TEUs were operated, a 3% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Transshipment accounted for 48% of these operations, while imports and exports each contributed 26%. This distribution reflects the port's dual role: it is a cargo redistribution hub in the Pacific and a gateway for national industry.
By land, 71% of containers were transported by truck and 29% by rail.
In the automotive segment, the port handled 531,182 vehicles between January and September, positioning it as the main automotive port on the Mexican Pacific. Imports led this traffic with 74% of the units, mainly from China, Japan, and South Korea. Exports accounted for 25%, and transshipment 1%. Key brands mobilized include General Motors, Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, and BMW.
The results at the end of September demonstrate how different productive and commercial sectors converge in a strategic port infrastructure for Mexico. Its activity drives the movement of goods and connects national supply chains with international markets.
