The Semi-Specialized Container and Project Cargo Terminal of CICE Group, located in the North Bay of the Port of Veracruz, has entered a new operational phase with the commissioning of two Liebherr P180 L-S Rail-Mounted Gantry (RMG) Cranes. With this equipment, the company expands its capabilities to handle maritime services and perform maneuvers with different cargo configurations.
The incorporation of the equipment transitioned from the installation phase to commercial operation by serving two shipping services. The first was CMA CGM's Altamira Express, with the arrival of the vessel Elbridge; while the second crane became active with ZIM Integrated Shipping Services' ZIM Gulf Toucan service, during the call of the Spyros V.
With these operations, both pieces of equipment were formally integrated into the North Bay terminal's work scheme, expanding the resources available to meet the needs of shipping lines calling at this facility in the Port of Veracruz.
One of the central elements of the new cranes is precisely their versatile nature. The Liebherr P180 L-S equipment has a safe working load capacity of up to 65 tons and can reach up to 80 tons through Twin Lift operations, a configuration that allows two containers to be handled simultaneously.
For operations requiring higher capacities, the cranes can work in a coordinated manner under Tandem mode, with loads between 80 and 100 tons. This feature is particularly relevant for a facility that, in addition to container movement, is designed to handle project cargo, where the dimensions and weights of the pieces require different operational configurations than those used in conventional containerized cargo handling.
Added to this is a reach of up to 20 container rows, a characteristic that expands the possibilities for handling vessels and strengthens the terminal's capacity to meet the demands posed by the evolution of maritime services.
The incorporation of the equipment also has a technological component. The RMGs feature ROS systems for remote operation, as well as Active Front End technology, which allows energy recovery during certain phases of crane operation. In this way, the expansion of physical capabilities is accompanied by tools aimed at optimizing maneuvers and the performance of port operations.
Thus, the commissioning of the two cranes is integrated into the operational development of CICE Group's Semi-Specialized Container and Project Cargo Terminal in North Bay, an infrastructure from which the company seeks to increase its response capacity to the dynamics of maritime services connecting the Port of Veracruz with different markets.
Beyond adding two pieces of equipment to its infrastructure, their commissioning expands CICE Group's alternatives to handle different types of maneuvers from the same terminal, both for containerized cargo and for operations requiring greater lifting capacities.
