The Peruvian government ordered the implementation of the optimization protocol for the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the Government of the People's Republic of China.
The established start date is November 1, 2026, as determined by Supreme Decree 012-2026-MINCETUR, published in an extraordinary edition this Tuesday, October 27.
"The Optimization Protocol of the Free Trade Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Peru and the Government of the People's Republic of China, whose full text is published on the Peruvian Trade Agreements website of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), will be implemented starting November 1, 2026," the regulation details.
The aforementioned website highlights that the Peru-China FTA allows for "strengthening commercial relations with a country whose market is the largest in the world (1.397 billion people) and whose growth has been the highest globally in the last two decades, with rates of approximately 9% annually."
This framework allows Peru to gain better access to a market involving greater demand for "consumer goods, raw materials, intermediate goods, and capital goods," they added.
It also represents, the page cites, preferential access for Peruvian products, integration of production chains, investment, and customs cooperation.
As a reminder, this FTA was signed on April 28, 2009, in Beijing (People's Republic of China), ratified by Supreme Decree 092-2009-RE, of December 6, 2009.
Subsequently, it was implemented by Supreme Decree 005-2010-MINCETUR, of February 25, 2010. It formally entered into force on March 1, 2010.
However, this optimization protocol was signed in Lima (Peru) on November 14, 2024, and ratified by Supreme Decree 035-2026-RE, of July 25, 2026.
