In the framework of the prevention actions promoted by the Government in response to the El Niño Phenomenon (FEN), the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) and the National Port Authority (APN) are promoting the use of maritime cabotage as a humanitarian corridor to ensure the logistics of strategic cargo in the country.
This strategy seeks to leverage the network of port facilities to maintain connectivity and guarantee the supply of essential goods in the event of possible road or climatic emergencies. In this context, during October, two key shipments were successfully completed from the South Container Terminal of the Port of Callao (operated by DP World Callao) to the Paita Port Terminal (operated by Terminales Portuarios Euroandinos – TPE).
Among the cargo transported were 15 containers with structures and elements intended for the installation of modular bridges, as well as two containers of drinking water to assist the vulnerable population.
These operations demonstrate the decisive role of logistics and port infrastructure in responding effectively to natural emergencies. The initiative is part of the Action Plan against FEN, jointly prepared by the MTC and the APN, and also coordinated at a multisectoral level with the National Commission for Risk Management of the El Niño Phenomenon, led by the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI).
With these measures, the State reaffirms the use of national maritime transport (cabotage) as an efficient, safe, and complementary alternative to land transport to protect citizens and maintain Peru's logistical operability.
