Puerto Eten and Lambayeque: $600 Million Project for Logistics Hub

Lambayeque, a region located on the northern coast of Peru, seeks to consolidate itself as the new logistics hub of the Pacific Ocean through the realization of the Puerto Eten Port Terminal project and its Industrial Park.

This was stated by the regional governor of Lambayeque, Jorge Pérez, within the framework of the strategic meeting "Northern Corridor of Peru: Puerto Eten and the logistical transformation of northern Peru."

The initiative, which contemplates an initial investment of over 600 million dollars, seeks to consolidate the region as an industrial and logistical node of continental scope through a 740-hectare port with a draft of 15 to 16 meters.

The regional authority specified that the project has temporary technical viability granted by the General Directorate of Captaincies and Coastguards of Peru (Dicapi), an aquatic reserve, and an approved Master Plan.

Furthermore, the complete legal regularization and registration with the National Superintendence of Public Registries (Sunarp) of the 3,000 hectares of the Macro Regional Industrial Park in the Pampas de Reque was announced. This space will house industrial zones, a scientific-technological park, a logistics center, and the Quiñones Wind Project for renewable energy generation.

"We are not presenting a profile or an idea, but consolidated, legally sound projects with a legal umbrella. We are integrating the logistical offer of the northeast with a holistic and continental impact perspective," emphasized Governor Jorge Pérez.

Pérez added that the project articulates a strategic road and river network that connects the Pacific Ocean with the Atlantic through the Peru – Brazil Bioceanic Corridor and includes a regional Strategic Road Network with the Autopista del Sol, the Circunvalación Este, the modernization of IIRSA Norte (a 1,000 km Northeast Corridor road towards Yurimaguas), the new Chiclayo-Pomalca highway, the Gran Chimú Oval viaduct, and access to the José Abelardo Quiñones International Airport.

At the macro-regional level, the initiative is complemented by ProInversión's admission for processing of the Co-financed Private Initiative (IPC) for the dredging of the Huallaga River.

This work on the Noramazónica waterway will reactivate continuous commercial navigation from Yurimaguas to the Brazilian market (Manaus and Tabatinga), simultaneously connecting with key mining deposits in northern Peru such as Michiquillay, La Granja, Galeno, and Cañariaco.

To sustain this activity, the Regional Government proposes the use of desalinated water by reverse osmosis and the creation of an industrial hub for tailings treatment.

The official schedule for the Puerto Eten Multipurpose Port Terminal contemplates obtaining the Definitive Technical Viability during the current year 2026. Subsequently, the concession of the right to use the aquatic area is foreseen for 2027, the authorization to start works in 2028, and the beginning of commercial operations by 2030.

With an executed investment of approximately USD 270 million in works for taxes destined for regional road infrastructure, authorities project that this new logistics platform will allow for a reduction of at least 10% in operational costs for the sector, increasing the competitiveness of foreign trade in the area.
