The Supervisory Agency for Investment in Public Transport Infrastructure (Ositrán) held the 94th Ordinary Session of the National Port Users Council (CUP). In this technical forum, the current operational status of the Callao South Zone Container Terminal was presented to inform users about the methodology and factors governing its service capacity.
At the meeting, the concessionaire DP World Callao explained that the projected annual capacity for the period 2026 has been set at 2.3 million TEUs (a unit of measurement equivalent to a 20-foot container).
According to the technical information shared, this operational limit primarily responds to the productivity of the 10 quay gantry cranes, which record a performance of 28 containers per hour. This component currently constitutes the main bottleneck of the infrastructure, unlike other areas such as the storage yard and the gate area, which show superior capacity margins of 2.7 million and 2.6 million TEUs, respectively.
The calculation of these projections considers variables such as equipment availability, cargo rotation times, and the estimated percentage of transshipment operations for the terminal.
User councils are consultative bodies created by Ositrán to promote citizen participation in the supervision of transport infrastructures. These groups allow end and intermediate users to dialogue directly with the regulator, channel their inquiries, and propose improvements to port, airport, road, and railway services, thus ensuring transparent and citizen-centric management.
