ATSB: Delayed Emergency Assistance a Factor in Breakaway Ships During Storm
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau released an interim report on four ships that broke away from their berths at the Port of Brisbane during a severe thunderstorm on November 24, 2025. Delayed emergency assistance emerged as a major contributing factor, as pilots and crews were unable to reach the port promptly due to road traffic congestion caused by the storm. The containerships Volans, Wide India, and MSC Barbara, along with car carrier Viking Passama, experienced mooring failures when wind gusts peaked at 71 knots.
