U.S. Strikes Iran as IMO Warns Ships to Avoid Hormuz Strait
The International Maritime Organization urged the shipping industry to avoid the Strait of Hormuz after the United States launched strikes against more than 80 Iranian military targets in response to attacks on three merchant vessels. IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez condemned the attacks and called for de-escalation, citing nearly 6,000 seafarers stranded in the Persian Gulf. The escalation follows Iran's rejection of U.S. accusations of ceasefire violations and signals the collapse of a recently agreed memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran.
