The Kuwaiti-flagged, Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC)-operated tanker Kazimah III was hit by an unknown projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on 1 October. The crew has been reported safe, and it remains uncertain whether the vessel caused any pollution.

The incident was reported by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), which stated that the vessel was hit and that the impact triggered a fire onboard. The crew was reported safe, and any pollution or environmental impact from the strike remained unknown at the time. Maritime security sources later identified the vessel as the Kazimah III.
The Kazimah III is a crude oil tanker built in 2006. It has a length of 333.13 metres, a beam of 60 metres, and a gross tonnage of 161,113.
