Thamesborg Returns to Arctic Northwest Passage Following 2025 Grounding
Dutch general cargo vessel Thamesborg successfully transited Canada's Northwest Passage from Aug. 13 to Aug. 18, 2026, marking its first passage since running aground on an uncharted shoal in Franklin Strait on Sept. 6, 2025. The 172-meter Wagenborg vessel left Matane, Quebec, on Aug. 8 and is scheduled to arrive in Onsan, South Korea, on Sept. 3. The 2025 incident triggered a month-long salvage operation involving transfer of more than 5,000 tons of industrial carbon blocks cargo.
