APM Terminals Los Angeles expands battery-electric fleet with 40-unit Orange EV contract
APM Terminals Los Angeles and Orange EV announced a contract for 40 HUSK-e® XP battery-electric terminal tractors, bringing Pier 400's total electric tractor count to 60 units and completing the electrification of its on-dock rail drayage fleet. The expansion follows 12 months of strong operational performance from the initial 20 units deployed in April 2025, which accumulated 42,000 zero-emission operating hours with a 98.8% uptime rate. The procurement is part of an $80 million EPA Clean Ports Program sub-recipient contract, with funding structured as 60% federal grant, 20% Port of Los Angeles contribution, and 20% APM Terminals capital investment.
