Ecuador and Panama are advancing in the preparation of a trade agreement that seeks to expand the exchange of goods and services, as well as generate opportunities for Ecuadorian companies. The initiative also opens avenues for cooperation in logistics, industry, financial services, and energy.
In 2025, Ecuador exported USD 107 million in non-oil products to Panama, with a favorable trade balance of USD 29 million. By July 2026, non-oil sales grew by 8%, while imports increased by 25%, according to the Ecuadorian Federation of Exporters (Fedexpor).
The negotiation also presents opportunities for energy cooperation, through the exchange of experiences in diversifying the electricity matrix and regional integration. The terms of reference signed in September 2026 paved the way for negotiations, which business leaders expect to conclude by the end of this year, with a view to signing the agreement in 2027.
