Alicante – October 15, 2026 – The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Alicante, held today, began with a report from President Luis Rodríguez on the economic results for the first eight months of the year, according to which the Port of Alicante leads the growth of the Spanish port system with a 22.8% increase until August. During this period, the port handled 2.24 million tons.
This result gains relevance when compared to the combined evolution of the 27 ports analyzed, whose average stands at 1.2%.
Revenue reached 10.96 million euros, 9.4% more than in the same period of 2025. Profit before tax amounted to 2.13 million euros, with a year-on-year growth of 36.5%.
One of the main drivers of growth was container traffic, which reached 167,361 TEUs, 32.9% more than in August of the previous year. This increase particularly favored activity fee revenues, which grew by 25.2%, to 2.35 million euros.
Operating expenses increased by 2.6%, to 10.24 million, below revenue growth. As a result, operating profit improved by 53.4%, to 1.86 million euros.
The entity maintains a solid financial position, with no debt to credit institutions.
Also relevant is the combined financial liquidity figure, which stands at 25.3 million euros, compared to 19.85 million at the close of 2025, an increase of 5.46 million euros.
In this section, the mutual agreement termination of the concession granted to RESTAURA GESTIÓN FORTY, S.L. to rehabilitate the Faro del Cabo de las Huertas and dedicate it to hospitality services was approved. The concession, approved in 2020 with an initial term of 15 years, could not be developed, according to the group's allegations, due to the impossibility of obtaining the necessary municipal license. The agreement will allow the Port Authority to regain full availability of the land and facilities.
The board also approved the modification of the concession of FORTY & MONTORO, S.L. to expand the terrace of the Samoa restaurant, in Plaza del Puerto, by 248.47 m², given the impossibility of making the platform-island planned in the original concession available to the company.
The proposal includes excluding the 393 m² of the platform-island and incorporating the new area into the existing establishment, with an estimated investment of 300,000 euros. The concession will maintain its hospitality activity and the original expiration date, without extension.
In other matters, part of Marina Puerta de Alicante's authorization has been temporarily suspended to prepare for the start of the round-the-world sailing race in January 2027. The measure affects 8,242 m² of land and water surface of docks 12 and 14, between October 23, 2026, and February 5, 2027, depending on the area.
Furthermore, Terminales Marítimas del Sureste (TMS) is authorized to temporarily assign 31,300 m² of Muelle 19 to Liebherr Container Cranes Limited. The space will be used for the reception, storage, assembly, and testing of RTG cranes for a project in Khor Fakkan (United Arab Emirates).
In the works section, progress is being made on the need for a new electrical substation and an external network to increase the capacity of the OPS system for supplying electricity to berthed vessels.
This action is part of the project to install this system at the cruise terminal, with a planned power of 16 MVA, which will allow ships to connect to the electrical grid during their stay in port.
The board, on the other hand, has approved the modification and expansion of the Anti-Fraud Measures Plan and the Code of Conduct and Responsible Practices approved in 2022.
Luis Rodríguez also reported on the celebration of the First Innovation Awards, on December 14.
Innovation holds a prominent place in the roadmap of the Port Authority of Alicante. Over the last 15 months, 36 innovation projects and actions have been promoted and managed. 80 percent of them are under active execution or preparation. The total identified funding and investment mobilized by the port in innovation amounts to just over 7.5 million euros and comes from grants obtained and private investment.
After the meeting, Luis Rodríguez invited the board members to a guided tour of the exhibitions commemorating the 125th anniversary of the creation of the Port Works Board, located in the old Sanidad Building, now "Casa de la Concordia," and in the Sala Luceros of the Lonja del Pescado.
During the tour, the members of the Board of Directors received explanations from the exhibition curators, being particularly amazed by Gastón Castelló's mosaics, the engravings and paintings, as well as historical pieces from the port, such as the column from the disappeared Port Board building.
Rodríguez took the opportunity to announce to the board members that, on October 28, a series of conferences will begin, addressing numerous port-related topics from different perspectives, covering its history, present, and future, including one dedicated to the figure of Pedro Herrero, who was a medical officer of the Port Works Board.
