Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa announced the elimination of tariffs on Colombian exports to the Ecuadorian market, a measure that came into effect this June 1. The decision was announced during a dialogue with Colombian presidential candidate Abelardo de la Espriella and is part of efforts to strengthen the economic and commercial relationship between both countries, which maintain close productive and border ties in the Andean region.
The measure seeks to facilitate the exchange of goods and improve access conditions for Colombian products, especially in agricultural, industrial, and service sectors. During the conversation, the possibility of promoting future cooperation agreements on energy matters and expanding economic integration mechanisms was also discussed, with the aim of strengthening competitiveness and commercial opportunities for both markets.
Likewise, the authorities agreed on the need to reinforce binational coordination against common challenges such as drug trafficking, illegal mining, and organized crime. The reduction of trade barriers, along with greater institutional and security cooperation, could contribute to boosting cross-border trade flows, strengthening regional supply chains, and consolidating economic integration between Ecuador and Colombia.
