The possible arrival of a new El Niño event has led to continuous monitoring by producers, exporters, and economic analysts in Ecuador. Although there is still uncertainty about its intensity and duration, the phenomenon could impact strategic activities linked to exports and natural resources, with effects on national economic performance.
Among the most exposed sectors are shrimp, bananas, cocoa, fishing, and transportation. Variations in ocean temperature and increased rainfall can alter productivity, favor the appearance of crop diseases, and modify catch patterns, while intense rains could affect roads, bridges, and logistical corridors.
The evolution of climatic conditions will be crucial for the planning of supply chains and foreign trade operations. A more intense event could increase logistical costs, affect connectivity with ports, and create challenges for maritime transport and the continuity of the country's agricultural, aquaculture, and fishing exports.
