An analysis conducted by EY shows that activities at the Port of Hirtshals and its surroundings generate the equivalent of 2,453 full-time jobs in Hjørring. This represents almost 10% of the municipality's total employment.
The results demonstrate the terminal's importance as one of the main drivers of the municipality's economic growth, while also underscoring the need for continued investment in the development and future capacity of the Port of Hirtshals.
Hirtshals is one of Denmark's leading commercial and transport ports. According to the EY analysis, activities at the port and its surroundings generate 4,735 full-time equivalent jobs across Denmark, produce USD 160 million in annual tax revenue, and contribute a total gross value added of USD 660 million each year.
The results highlight the port's current contribution to employment, business development, and value creation. At the same time, the analysis underscores the importance of ensuring the port's future capacity through the Northern Expansion.
According to the analysis, the 2,453 full-time equivalent jobs in the municipality of Hjørring are distributed across a wide range of sectors, including shipping, repair and installation of machinery and equipment, wholesale trade, and the fishing industry.
The analysis also shows that port activities generate USD 390 million in gross value added and approximately USD 45 million in annual tax revenue for the municipality of Hjørring. These tax revenues strengthen the municipality's financial capacity and help fund public services, local employment, development projects, and infrastructure that benefit both residents and businesses.
The results further illustrate the Port of Hirtshals' role as a strategic infrastructure hub connecting Scandinavia with the rest of Europe. At the same time, the analysis emphasizes that continuous investment in the port's development is essential to maintain and strengthen the employment and value creation it already generates today.
The Port of Hirtshals is continuing with Phase 1 works, the expansion of the western breakwater, which will improve navigation conditions and increase the port's capacity to accommodate future maritime traffic.
