Vladivostok, the most visited Russian Far Eastern cruise port before the pandemic, recently resumed cruise operations with a call by Eastern Venus.
On June 4, 1988-built Eastern Venus, the former Pacific Venus, visited Russia in an itinerary that started and finished in Busan and included calls to Sokcho (South Korea), Vladivostok and Sakaiminato in Japan.
720-passenger capacity Eastern Venus belongs to South Korean operator Eastern Cruise, part of cargo company Duwon Shipping, and acquired in 2023.
The ship, formerly belonged to Japanese-based operator Venus Cruises and sailed regularly to Vladivostok carrying Japanese guests prior to 2019. Onboard the early June visit were South Korean sourced passengers who were offered shore excursions presenting Vladivostok's key attractions and also places of Korean history in the region.
A traditional maiden call ceremony was held onboard the ship participated by officials of Primorsky Territory's Government, officials of Vladivostok city's administration, officials of Vladivostok International Marine Passenger Terminal, the shipowner, master of the ship and representatives of the crew.
During the ceremony discussions were held between all parties about future cooperation and increasing the number of calls to the Russian port, including sourcing local passengers.
The resumption of cruising to Vladivostok after a six year lull is an important development for the regional cruise market as it is a truly unique port among Asian destinations and also holds potential for Russian sourced passengers to join itineraries.
