Leaders from across the country, grouped under the Confederation of Port Workers of Chile (Cotraporchi), held a meeting with the Undersecretary of Labor, Gustavo Rosende, and the regional ministerial secretary (seremi) for the same portfolio in Valparaíso, Carolina Sangüesa, to address - once again - the issues related to exceptional port workdays and the alternating shift system.
During the meeting, the confederation's representatives expressed their concern about a situation that, they noted, has been affecting the workforce for years and has yet to find a definitive solution.
The meeting took place in an atmosphere of dialogue and willingness on the part of the authorities, who listened to the leaders' proposals and committed to a future working session to continue evaluating alternatives that would allow progress on this matter.
The president of Cotraporchi, Sergio Baeza, valued the meeting and reiterated the need to find a concrete solution for port workers.
"This is an issue we have been addressing for a long time, and so far, it has not received a concrete response. We discussed it with the previous government, a few weeks ago with the Minister of Labor, and now with the Undersecretary. It is a situation that keeps our workers and port organizations uneasy because it directly affects their working conditions and quality of life," Baeza stated.
"We hope that, with the new authorities and this new dialogue process, we can make progress and finally reach a solution that benefits all port workers," emphasized the head of the organization.
Cotraporchi stressed that they will continue to promote dialogue spaces with authorities and involved stakeholders with the aim of advancing solutions that provide greater stability and better conditions for the port sector.
