U.S. Indo-Pacific Command intercepted the sanctioned oil tanker Lenore in the Indian Ocean on 5 June reportedly operating as a stateless tanker. The boarding operation was conducted without incident under the "right of visit" authority by the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command forces off the southern coast of Sri Lanka.
At the time of the interception, the 333-meter-long tanker was reportedly carrying around 1.9 million barrels of Iranian crude oil loaded from Kharg Island.
Lenore is a 2024-built crude oil tanker currently sailing under the flag of Curacao. The vessel was sanctioned by the United States in October 2024 for its alleged involvement in the Iranian oil trade.
