Indian authorities seized 115 kg of cocaine during a raid on the container ship Europe. Three crew members were arrested, while a fourth is suspected of having drowned during an attempted escape.
The operation was a joint effort between the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and the Indian Coast Guard. The seizure took place around midnight on 25 May after the ATS received confidential information about narcotics being transported on the vessel anchored near the Mundra Port.
Acting on the tip-off, the ATS coordinated with the Coast Guard and intercepted the ship. Officials reported that crew members were seen throwing several bags overboard as authorities boarded the vessel. One crew member also jumped into the sea.
Five bags were recovered from the water, though one bag was lost. A total of 115 kg of cocaine was seized, with an estimated street value of $11.9 million. Despite a two-day search operation, the crew member who jumped overboard remains missing and is feared drowned.
The arrested crew members reportedly confessed that the cocaine had been stored in the vessel's engine room since November 2025. Authorities believe they have uncovered a new maritime drug route from Latin America to India being used by an international drug trafficking syndicate.
