With the presence of local and regional authorities, social leaders, residents of the commune, and representatives of the port community, the leaders of the Federation of Port Workers of STI (Fetraporsati) inaugurated their new union headquarters.
The new infrastructure will provide workers of San Antonio Terminal Internacional with their own place to hold meetings, assemblies, coordination sessions, and activities related to union work.
From the organization, they highlighted that this milestone represents a significant advance for the sector, as it provides better conditions for internal dialogue and the defense of labor rights.
During the ceremony, the president of Fetraporsati, Patricio Fredes, valued the effort made to realize this project, emphasizing that the headquarters will not only be a meeting point for the six unions that form this federation but also an open space for strengthening ties with the port community of San Antonio.
"Port workers did not have a headquarters where we could meet calmly and openly. For years we were using spaces of the company itself, and today, being our own, obviously changes the spirit of the conversations, especially with what lies ahead," declared Fredes, who also thanked the contribution made by the San Antonio Port Company to fulfill this aspiration.
The general manager (i) of Puerto San Antonio, Fernando Gajardo, stated that "for us, it is important to be with the port workers at the inauguration of their headquarters. In the 26 years of the concession process, there has been great progress not only in safety but also in understanding and communication. We highly value the maturity with which the leaders raise issues. We have important challenges ahead for both the bidding process and the Outer Port works, and we must maintain dialogue and conversation."
The presidential delegate of the Province of San Antonio, Soledad Loyola, highlighted the importance of port workers having the new headquarters and emphasized that "the Government is willing, like the leaders, to work collaboratively."
"For us, it is important that you have taken this step with an extraordinary standard so that you can meet, gather, and dialogue. Congratulations for all you have been doing over time," highlighted the general manager of STI, Andrés Albertini.
The Seremi of Labor and Social Welfare of the Valparaíso Region, Carolina Sangüesa, stated that "it is valuable to create these instances of social dialogue where we can share with the port workers of the province of San Antonio. We hope to have more opportunities to come to this place, generate dialogue, converse, and be part of the processes taking place in the port."
"As a municipality and on behalf of Mayor Omar Vera, we are grateful for this invitation and we know that this space, which the port workers of six unions have worked on with great effort, will allow them to meet, experience fraternity, and gather with authorities from different areas," added the Chief of Staff of the local municipality, Esteban Hinojosa.
The Director of Maritime Interests and Aquatic Environment (Dirinmar) of the Chilean Navy, Rear Admiral Daniel González, explained that "for me, it is a source of great pride and joy to be here in San Antonio participating in the inauguration of this headquarters for the Federation of Port Workers of San Antonio. I believe it is a very important achievement and it was necessary for the Maritime Authority to be here accompanying friends and people I have had the good fortune to meet during my time as maritime governor and also at the Port Captaincy of San Antonio."
With this new space, Fetraporsati plans to continue promoting initiatives aimed at the well-being of its members and the strengthening of the local port movement.
