The Regional Port Society of Buenaventura announced the reception of project cargo destined for the Pacific Regasification Plant, which is the first infrastructure for handling Liquefied Natural Gas in Colombia.
"At SPRBUN, we received the key pieces for the Pacific Regasification Plant, a strategic megaproject that will guarantee energy supply in southwestern and inland Colombia, preventing a natural gas deficit," the port operator stated on its social media.
"Our terminal demonstrates its high operational capacity, managing the unloading of 30 extra-heavy pieces with weights ranging between 37 and 76 tons," it added.
The Pacific Regasification Plant, a company controlled by Puertos Inversiones y Obras (PIO S.A.S.), includes a Floating Storage Unit (FSU) for Liquefied Natural Gas in the Colombian Pacific, from where the fuel will be moved to an onshore plant, which will be located in the Buga area.
It is estimated that when the system begins operations in November of this year, Colombia will be able to receive and store 60 million cubic feet (1,699,008 cubic meters) of LNG, although that amount could exceed 400 million cubic feet daily.
